Foundation Faux - Pas

The foundation of your makeup is critical to the success of your over-all efforts. Just like a house that is beautiful, made from the best materials, elegantly designed by the best architecture but built on a cliff, quagmire, or fault line, you are a disaster waiting to happen.

There are some fundamental points to working with a foundation. The first one is to use one – even if you think that means that you have bad skin or are going to look like your grandmother, think again. Foundation now is for healthy skin to smooth and enhance, not conceal, congeal, and generally cake the skin.

Halle’s Choice Picks

Bodacious Bond beauty and capricious Cat Woman celebrity Halle Berry genuinely loves Revlon’s cosmetics. As a spokeswoman for the Halcyon house of beauty, one would expect the simply gorgeous actress with “to die for” skin to speak favorably of their products and of course to wear them.

Halle Wears Revlon
But Halle really does wear them! She is a spokeswoman for Revlon because she glows and recommends them all the time so sensibly, she also gets paid for promoting them.
Halle’s Favs
Halle adores Revlon’s ColorStay foundation. In fact, she calls it her favorite Revlon product because of their range of colors. There is a color for everyone. She considers herself to have a challenging skin color to match. I think Revlon should make a color just for her, Cappucino Velvet!

Miracle Complexions 2: Firm Foundation

The first step in creating a look that emulates the natural beauty and assets of women like J Lo, Liv Tyler, Angelina Jolie, and Nicole Kidman is to prime your skin. Then, either apply foundation first and dab concealer on, or dab concealer on first and dab foundation on. The idea is that if your skin is good, you can skip the foundation.
For our role model beauties, foundation is a base because they use very high quality, light weight products such as Laura Mercier Foundation, Origins Nude & Improved Bare Face Make-up, Bare Escuentuals Mineral Foundation or Stila Illuminating Liquid Foundation. They first apply the foundation to even out any imperfections. When under intense scrutiny, it is important to even out your imperfections and conceal any redness.
To apply the foundation, use your fingers and a tapping motion to blend the liquid evenly over your face and neck. There is nothing more mortifying than a two-toned face one or two shades darker or lighter than your neck. Remember, a featherweight foundation can act as protection and the ultimate blender that allows concealer to be a subtle tool of miracle complexion perfection. And always, the rule of thumb is to thine own skin be true!

The Sun-Kissed Look

Summer foundation should look like it does not exist, it should be light with an SFP of at least 15. It should make you glow like a firefly on a hot June night. If you are using a bronzer you can still use a sheer foundation to give you that soft evening glow. Your skin should look moist yet kissed by the sun.

The Base of a Beautiful Face

Foundation is just that, it is the base of a beautiful face, after you use concealer to hide your flaws; you begin with foundation to emphasize the beauty in your face. Foundation comes in many forms, creams, powders, and minerals. Bare Minerals is a wonderful product, it is so pure you can even sleep in it without it being detrimental to your skin.

Sunscreen in Your Makeup

The Question is, does the sunscreen in your foundation give you and your skin the protection you need from the Suns rays? Well the answer is No it does not get the job done. Within only two hours you’re cream or liquid makeup is sliding around your face, it is gathering in your pores and wrinkles (excuse me laugh lines), in just one or two hours of normal humidity the SFP is rendered ineffective, as your foundation wears off.

Do not rely on a single layer of makeup to protect you from the suns rays. Here is a multi-faceted sun protection strategy that will assist you in not having skin that looks like burnt toast. First cleanse the skin, then gently smooth in a moisturizer with SPF 15 or broad-spectrum sunscreen. Broad spectrum would be Parsol 1789 and mexorgl. These products are light and silky on the skin and they feel almost invisible. Sunscreen moisturizers are now very sophisticated, Olay and Neutrgena make excellent lines in Sunscreen moisturizers that absorb smoothly into the skin.

Next apply foundation with SPF 15 after moisturizer has absorbed into the skin, then lightly powder. Powder contains zinc oxide or titanium oxide these sit on the surface of the skin. They create a barrier by reflecting sun damage away from the skin, due to their opacity. These are also great for those, sensitive to chemical sunscreens, Bare minerals have one of the best out there.

Raw Natural Beauty

Raw Natural Beauty helps women look their best without putting potentially harmful, irritating ingredients on their skin. Much of RNB’s time is spent on researching new ingredients, technologies and resources from around the world to offer women the safest options available. RNB’s goal is to help change the beauty industry to develop higher standards and “green” methodologies of product development, performance and safety.

RNB created a fabulous natural, look with mineral-based makeup called “Naked Illumination”. Here are the steps to creating that look:

Concealer, Foundation & Powder

Alright ladies — it’s time for some Makeup 101. We’ve simply seen to many makeup why-did-she-do-it looks out there for our comfort. So, here are 3 basics that you need to know about using concealer, foundation and powder:

Concealer or ”cover stick” is not foundation. It is applied under your foundation for spots only. It’s  perfect for covering up zits, blemishes and those nasty dark circles under the eyes. You can buy it in liquid, stick or compact form. Compacts are the best for oily skin.  The most important point to remember here is to use a concealer that is a little lighter than your natural skin color. Your foundation will work to even it out and cover it up.

Katie’s Glow

Katie Holmes has the most gorgeous glowing look, it’s no wonder we all love her. She starts with an exfoliating scrub and applies as much moisturizer as is needed, depending on all the conditions involved. She gets her glow by blending her foundation with a moistened sponge and does NOT set it with powder.

She uses a beige eye shadow across her eyelids all the way into the crease and blends to avoid lines. She tops it off with a creamy white shadoe under the arch of her brows. She draws a thin line with dark brown eyeliner on her lower lash line and gently blends it.  Line the lower rim of your lash line with a dark brown eyeliner and lightly blend. When she wants added drama, she adds a few single false lashes to her upper lash line. Then she coats all her eyelashes with dark brown mascara.

Mineral Powders

Mineral powder makeup is as natural as you can get. It has no talc, no chemicals, no fillers and no dyes. They are creates from finely crushed, high pigment minerals. They work well after cosmetic treatments and don’t stimulate allergic reactions or clog pores. They protect against UV radiation because of the titanium dioxide and zinc oxide at the base. The zinc oxide, in the mineral powder is anti inflammatory and helps with rosacea and skin blemishes. The absence of talc helps with the skin’s hydration.
