Skin Healthy Foods
As I mentioned above, eating vitamin rich foods is great for your skin. If you don’t pay attention to the foods you’re consuming, your skin will show it. So, what are some good foods to eat to improve your skin?
Start with any low-fat dairy product. They are very rich in Vitamin A, which is good for your skin. Nutrition expert, Liz Lipski, says that the vitamin found in low-fat dairy is “true A” so its good for all skin types. Low-fat yogurt is not only high in “true A”, it contains a live bacteria called acidophilus. Acidophilus has been known to help with intestinal health, but turns out to also have a good impact on your skin!
Fruits like blueberries, strawberries, plums, and blackberries are all very high in antioxidants. These four fruits are known to have the highest antioxidant count out of all fruits. Antioxidants help protect your skin from free radicals such as pollution and sun by protecting your skin cells from the damage caused by these radicals. By protecting the skin cells, you also prevent premature aging!
Try eating some salmon or walnuts. They deliver essential fatty acids, which are key for healthy skin membranes that act as barriers to harm and carry nutrients. The cell membrane also holds water, resulting in younger looking skin. The best fatty acids are omega 3 and omega 6, which need to remain in balance.
Eat whole-wheat breads/muffins, tuna, and turkey. They all contain selenium, which is also key to protecting skin cells from damage. Wheat is also better for you because “white” foods have a higher insulin level which can cause inflammation.
I love green tea and it is great for your skin. Its high in antioxidants and also has anti-inflammatory properties. Whether you consume it by mouth or apply it to your skin, it has been proven to protect against sun damage.
Then there’s water! ‘Nuff said! Stay hydrated.
There is more involved in having great skin than a balanced diet, but that is a huge part of it. Try it and I can almost guarantee that you will like the results.
